Getting Started

How do I get started with Lumicademy?

Getting started is simple! First, choose your target subject from our 100+ available options. Then select a course plan that fits your schedule and learning goals. Finally, you'll be matched with a certified instructor and can begin your personalized learning journey.

What does a lesson look like?

Students sign onto our platform where they can interact live via video and audio with their instructor. Each lesson includes learning new material, practicing the language through conversation and exercises, and receiving real-time feedback from your instructor to help improve your skills.

Curriculum

Which languages do you offer?

We offer over 100 languages, including popular choices like Spanish, French, Mandarin, German, Japanese, and low-density ones like Tok Pisin and Zulu. We can offer dialects and cultural contexts specific to your needs. An example is a group of Portuguese students, but some students need to learn Brazilian Portuguese whereas others need to learn European Portuguese. We can offer relevant and applicable Portuguese to both groups of students. Whether you're looking to learn a widely spoken language or a less common one, we have options to suit your needs.

Can I learn a specific dialect for a language?

Of course! We can provide dialects and cultural contexts specific to your needs. An example is a group of Portuguese students, but some students need to learn Brazilian Portuguese and culture whereas others need to learn European Portuguese and culture. We can offer relevant and applicable Portuguese to both groups of students.

Our courses are designed to fit your schedule. Options include a Standard course, which has 48 class hours, Mini courses with 24 class hours, and Micro courses with 10 class hours. Or you can choose the Flex option to customize the number of hours.

How long are individual class sessions?

Classes typically last 1 hour each, but we offer flexibility to accommodate your schedule. You can choose sessions of other durations if that better fits your availability and learning style.

Scheduling

How does scheduling work?

During sign-up, you'll provide your desired schedule including the days and times you'd like to meet for class. Once we receive your preferences, we'll match you with an available instructor and send you a scheduling confirmation with all the details of your upcoming lessons.

Can I make changes to my schedule or course?

Absolutely! We understand that your needs may change. You can adjust your schedule, switch between course levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), or even change your focus area (like switching from general learning to test prep) by contacting our support team.

Can I take a course while travelling?

Yes. As long as the location has a sufficient Internet connection, you can take the class with you wherever you go.

What technology do I need for online classes?

You'll need a computer with a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a microphone. You'll get access to our user-friendly platform for video-conferencing and accessing materials during your course.

Age Requirements

Is there an age limit? Are children allowed to enroll?

Our courses are designed for learners of all ages. However, we do generally recommend that your child is at least elementary school age (around 6 years old) to ensure they can fully engage with our online learning environment and certified instructors. Parental supervision is also recommended for younger learners.

Academic Institutions

I would like to receive credits for my course. Is that possible?

We can work with accredited institutions to offer courses that provide academic credits. We can also administer an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) test that your school may accept as transfer credit. Please contact our support team to discuss your specific needs and how we can facilitate credit-bearing courses.

I represent a school, college, or university. Can class schedules fit the schedule standards already established at our institution?

Yes, we can provide support for your institution's existing course offerings. We can bring your classes into our virtual classroom environment! In these instances, class schedules are set by your institution. Whether your course schedules meet multiple days in a week, or meet for several hours at a time, we can host these classes for your students.
